Software Status Definitions

nanoTITAN uses the following software status definitions to communicate the maturity of its software releases:

Development

All software in the development phase may change significantly before the stable commercial release. This phase is further subdivided into three categories:

  • Initial - new capabilities have just been added and may or may not work as desired
  • Active - the software is in active development, with additional development releases expected
  • Final - the software is nearing the end of its development cycle; documentation will be updated during this phase

Users are encouraged to submit requests for enhancement during this phase.

Testing

Software in the testing phase will not change in terms of capabilities; successive testing releases are meant to improve the quality of the code and documentation until a stable release is achieved.

  • Initial - development and documentation are considered complete; the review phase will begin
  • Active - the software is in active testing, with additional testing releases expected
  • Final - the software has been tested and is considered a potential candidate for final release

Users are encouraged to submit problem reports during this phase.

Stable

The software has graduated from the development and testing phases and is now considered stable enough to be recommended for commercial use. Additional maintenence releases to address any problem reports are likely.
Experimental

An experimental release is unsupported, without any explicit or implied future development or releases. An expermental release is typically made available for platforms on which nanoTITAN does not perform testing and therefore does not (yet) officially support (but on which the software may still be useful). Another typical experimental release would be for the introduction of a new experimental capability to gauge community interest before committing it to the main development stream.
