Zettatechnology
Zettatechnology is an alternative term to nanotechnology, which instead of referring to the scale of the parts themselves, refers to the number of nanoscale subcomponents of a macroscale device that could be created with advanced molecular manufacturing.
Zetta is the metric prefix for sextillion or 1021, a very large number.
The term "zettatechnology" was proposed by Dr. K. Eric Drexler, formerly Chairman of the Foresight Institute and nanotechnology pioneer, in an attempt to distinguish between the future capabilities advanced nanotechnology may bring and the rather confusing number of meanings that the term "nanotechnology" has acquired.
