Nanoengineering

Nanoengineering refers to engineering devices at the nanoscale (typically 1-100 nm). This involves custom design of small and medium sized molecules to perform particular functions and the synthesis of these molecules into larger subsystems and systems.

Nanoengineering is in its infancy, with exploratory experiments being undertaken with molecules such as nanotubes, buckyballs, and molecules custom designed for particular electronic or photonic properties.
