Nanite
A nanite is a nanomachine. It is a term commonly used to describe an end item developed to accomplish designed operations and whose dimensions are measured in the nanoscale. The nanite may have programmed functions, specific purposes and a finite life span.
It can represent the entire spectrum of mechanical structure and application, ranging from the most fundamental, such as enhancers to existing products, to entirely new, complex nanomachines, entirely built as stand alone nano products.
Another application of the term is in describing self-replicating machines often described as "grey goo" which are associated with ecological, environmental, and societal threats.
